What We Do

  • What We Do
  • The basic premise of Main Steel's business is to receive metal from the mill or distributor, apply one of our processes (such as polishing or cut-to-length) and ship the metal to the end user or return it to the mill or distributor for stocking purposes. The beauty of this service is that Main Steel neither buys nor sells any of the hundreds of million pounds of metal it processes. All of the inventory on our plants' floors belongs to our customers, but it is treated as if it were our own, in fully insured, secured storage in one of Main's seven locations.

At Main Steel, our polishing capacity in our eight facilities is flexible enough that no job is too large or too small for us to handle. We have multiple lines, configured to handle coil, sheet or plate, to either a wet or dry finish. Our Company also produces 75 various commercial finishes and a variety of specialized finishes designed to meet the ever-changing needs of our customer base. Our staff has the knowledge and expertise to match or customize almost any polished finish in all our facilities. One of the benefits to using Main Steel is that we will work with our customers to establish quality standards and then match these standards in all our facilities coast to coast. This allows parts made in different areas of the country to match in the final application.

In addition to our polishing equipment, we can provide a number of tailored processes including cut-to-length, slitting, buffing and blanking, designed to meet your exact specifications.  This affords you a single resource for all your finishing and the ability to control your total quality standards.  We routinely accept jobs with specifications so constraining that many other processors turn them away.

In the beginning, the only metal that Main Steel processed was Stainless Steel.  Today we have expanded our markets to include aluminum, red metals, painted metals, nickel-based alloys, titanium and pre-painted aluminum and steel.  The finished processed products can be found in such applications as appliances, food service equipment, transportation, aerospace, automotive gas tanks, bumpers and wheels, as well as decorative materials in shopping malls, office buildings and elevators, to name a few.

The surface critical finishes we created led Main Steel to add another service - applying and/or selling protective films to the metals industry.  When value is added to an already high priced material, the surface needs to be protected from damage.  Main Steel's years of experience allows us to use our knowledge to provide the right film for the right application, whether it is for surface protection, laser cutting, outdoor exposure or deep drawing.
